Nagahama Hikiyama Festival
It is said that the festival started when the floats were pulled in the festival of Nagahama Hachiman Shrine, which was made by the money from gold dust given to people in celebration of the son of the lord of the castle, Hideyoshi Toyotomi. It is one of the Japan’s three biggest float festivals and boys aged between 5 and 12 play Kabuki in it.
Nagahama Castle Historical Museum
Successful castle of Hideyoshi Toyotomi built at lake side, who laid the foundations for a commercial town and basis of Nagahama with Rakuichi-Rakuza(free market and open guilds) The castle was restored as Historical Museum in 1930 and exhibits a great many historical materials. Great view of Kohoku Area can be seen from the tower.
You can visit a glass studio, galleries exhibiting stained glass and world’s glass art along Hokkoku Street. You can find restaurants, café, souvenir shops and studio where you can experience. Please enjoy your time in a nostalgic town, Nagahama.
